Take a look at a few of the projects we've worked on recently. It's amazing what some sand paper and a couple coats of finish can do for a floor.
This house was about 20 years old with the original red oak flooring in it. Several of the very high traffic areas were worn down through the finish. The photos below show the before, during and after of the kitchen, which had been the biggest victim of the traffic.
This kitchen took the brunt of everyday life over the last 20 years.
The dark stains sanded off after a few passes.
The floor was water popped then stained and top coated with water-based finish.
Products Used: Stained with Drifast Jacobean. Finished with Bona Traffic HD Satin.
This was a house that had carpet throughout the living room and 3 bedrooms as well as the steps. All carpet was completely removed and replaced with beautiful 5 1/4" wide character grade hickory. Treads and risers were replaced with hickory as well.

This is a huge historic home near downtown Racine that was formerly used as a funeral parlor. There is still a casket elevator to prove it! It has now been converted into a single family home. Carpet covered the majority of the first floor and was removed to reveal beautiful inlay borders in several of the rooms. It's hard to believe that someone would ever cover them up but that is exactly what happened.
Some of the inlays had old pipes coming up through them for the original radiators that were removed prior to sanding. We repaired them using red oak, white oak, walnut and Brazilian cherry.
The old varnish had clouded the inlays. As sanding removed the varnish, it's as if new life was breathed into this wonderful floor.
The majority of this floor was 5/16" quarter sawn white or red oak. The boards were straight cut instead of tongue and groove. They were therefore face nailed as oppose to blind nailing.
The lines you see going perpendicular to the floor are rows of nail holes about 6" apart. To avoid hitting nail heads with the sanders, we set each nail before sanding.
After hiding patiently under the carpet for many decades, this floor can shine once again.

The flooring in this old house gave the impression of being "piecemealed" together. This new 3 1/4" wide Rift and Quarter Sawn White Oak brought some continuity as well as a little sophistication to this home.
While beautiful in it's own right, the raw rift and quartered white oak lacks a certain depth and luster that staining(or sealing) and finishing offers. This photo is taken after install was completely but before sanding process.
After sanding, we water popped and then stained the floor. We decided to apply an oil-based sealer coat over the stain for extra depth and build.
A beautiful new floor in this old house!
Products Used: 3 1/4" R&Q #2 White Oak. Stained with Drifast Medium Brown. Drifast Sealer. Bona Traffic HD Extra Matte.
Like many other old homes, glued down carpet covered this floor for decades.
The thick glue hid the bordered floor below.
All that hard work that was done years ago is now on display for a new generation of home owners to enjoy.

This floor needed help. The original floor is over 100 years old and parts were worn down through the wear layer and a large section needed to be ripped out and replaced. New maple could not be used since it wouldn't match the existing. Fortunately we were able to get old reclaimed maple.
We removed the damaged wood. About 150 square feet of very worn maple.
The majority of the patch was weaved into the old floor that was still in decent shape.
Sanded, sealed and finished. Ready for business!
Products Used: Sealed with Bona AmberSeal and finished with Bona Traffic HD Satin.
This is one of our favorites! Third grade maple offers durability and beauty at a great price. First and second grade maple tend to have too many lighter colored boards for most people's taste. Third grade is the perfect solution.
This walnut was purchased by our customer as a herringbone. We did one bedroom as a herringbone and the other as this basket weave pattern. Both turned out beautifully!
This floor is already in so many old homes in the Midwest. Usually it's covered with carpet or some other flooring. Or it's just in disrepair and needs a lot of TLC. This floor had been painted black. Sealed with Bona Intense Seal and two coats of Bona Traffic HD Satin.
Brazilian Cherry is known for it durability. However, this floor is not for everyone since it has very deep red tones that continue to darken over time. Even so, this floor is elegant and beautiful.
